Edmonton Oilers General Manager Stan Bowman Faces Backlash After Opening Up About First Mistake As General Manager
The Oilers hired on general manager Stan Bowman, a former Chicago Blackhawk, this past summer.
After firing Ken Holland, many believed that it couldn't get any worse, until...
Stan Bowman lost two of his youngest players on the Oilers roster in
Philip Broberg and
Dylan Holloway to an offer sheet by the St.Louis Blues.
A transcript of the interview can be read below.
DANIEL NUGENT BOWMAN: Were you surprised when that happened?
STAN BOWMAN: Yeah. Certainly, it's an uncommon situation. There's never been two at the same time. So, I can't say that I was expecting that I didn't have the same emotional connection with them that the players do, or the fans. I get that, and I was probably coming at it more from a pragmatic standpoint not from an emotional one.
Days after this interview surfaced, NHL reporter Jeff Marek confirmed that the Calgary Flames and one other team was close to making an offer sheet to them as well.
It's a true failure for Bowman here, in every way you look at it.
It's been stated both players agents were communicating, but Bowman was still 'confused' and caught off guard- he is not a proper NHL general manager, if he can't handle guidelines such as offer-sheets.
These comments are making Stan Bowman's rough start as Edmonton Oilers general manager much worse, from a Blackhawks fans perspective, it is laughable... as many have already witnessed this route.
Turning a notable franchise to shambles? Yup..
