Patrick Kane's signing with the Detroit Red Wings seemed to be a welcome addition to an already great team. As a result of Kane joining the team, the team's record has dropped drastically from 11-6-3 to a dismal 8-10-1, falling from 5th to 12th in the conference.

Those were not the goals of Kane and the Red Wings, as Kane had hoped to join a team on its way to a Stanley Cup and it appears that playoffs may not be an option.

The Red Wings have been able to get six goals and 14 points out of Kane in 15 games following hip surgery and rehabilitation.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has shut down rumors/reports that F Patrick Kane would be a rental piece at the trade deadline this season, stating he'd be surprised if he was moved.

Before signing a one-year deal with the Red Wings, Kane was aiming for a multi-year contract but ultimately agreed on a shorter deal, hence the belief Kane is committed to the Red Wings, even past this season, but the team has to find the money to bring him back.

Kane is expected to seek a trade now that he does not have a no-trade clause, with Steve Yzerman aiding the process. As a result, Yzerman has more freedom to move Kane's contract than Kyle Davidson did.

According to NHL Insider David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, Kane was looking for a long-term contract with Detroit.

The outcome will more or less be another year wasted for Kane if he doesn't end up in the hunt for a Stanley Cup. His window for finding a team to win with shortens, year by year.

It will be interesting to see what the Red Wings will prioritize should they miss the playoffs for the 8th consecutive year in a row.
