Blackhawks Acquire Stanley Cup Champion Goalie From The Boston Bruins On This Day In NHL History
As a part of the Centennial season in Chicago, let's look back at a deal that went down on September 8, 1949.
The Blackhawks' general manager of the time, Bill Tobin, acquired Frank Brimsek from the Boston Bruins for cash:
Brimsek, born in Minnesota in 1915, won two Stanley Cups in his NHL career spanning from 1938 to 1950.
He took part in 514 games for the Boston Bruins and Blackhawks, tallying a 252-182-80 record.
He won two Stanley Cups in Boston, in 1939 and 1941.
He was eventually traded to Chicago in 1949, where he would play the final season of his career.
That year, he was sent between the pipes for all 70 games of the season but won only 22 games.
He was the first American goaltender to win a Vezina Trophy and to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
If Spencer Knight ends up having the same kind of career as him, the Hawks will be in business.
