Olczyk who played for the Blackhawks and the Maple Leafs at one point in his career feels that Tanev is a winner and gives the Maple Leafs a better chance at winning next season.
The addition of Tanev and Oliver Ekman Larsson to Toronto's defence core will certainly give the team a different look going into next season. The team has also shored up its goaltending by acquiring Anthony Stolarz from the Florida Panthers through free agency well signing Joseph Woll to a three-year extension.
Much has been made about the Maple Leafs and their summer as many of their fans along with pundits felt that the team was going to unravel part of their Core 4 and a potential trade of Mitch Marner was on the table.
It's likely that general manager Kyle Davidson had spoken to general manager Brad Treliving about the availability of Marner as he is become a lightning rod for trade talk over the past few months.
With the recent loss of Tyler Bertuzzi who is now with the Blackhawks, the Maple Leafs may need to look at another top six winger to add some size and toughness to help with Austin Matthews and John Tavares.
