The Chicago Blackhawks selected Eddie Olczyk with the third overall pick in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, and he had a successful 16-year career.

Olczyk played for six different teams throughout his career, including the Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks (1984–1987, 1998–2000), Toronto Maple Leafs , Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, and Pittsburgh Penguins (1992–1955).

In 1,031 games, he scored 342 goals and tallied up 452 assists for a total of 794 points.   Olczyk represented the United States nine times overseas throughout the course of his career.

Olczyk, who served as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins for a portion of two seasons between 2003 and 2005 finished off his hockey career after retiring with joining the Chicago Blackhawks broadcast team, which sadly came to a end last season after the Blackhawks refused Olcyzk's contract renewal, and went a different route.
