the next Brandon Hagel brewing in Chicago?
Do you recall the unfortunate loss of Brandon Hagel to the Bolts last season? The Blackhawks have had to sacrifice quite a bit of their forward depth in order to rebuild.
However, there is a new player on the scene who seems to share some similarities with Hagel.
There has been talk of Blackhawks prospect Jalen Luypen being compared to Brandon Hagel lately. Despite going undrafted until 2021 and being selected in the seventh round at 216th, Luypen is a versatile player who can perform various roles on the team.
He is adept at taking face-offs, shooting, and even drawing penalties. Notably, Luypen had a .97 ppg despite a slight dip in performance, which speaks to his scoring prowess. In the previous season, he had a 1.26 ppg record. Although he is a small player, his skill set is well-suited for a middle-six role.
Luypen was recently assigned to AHL Rockford from the WHL's Tri-City Americans.
