HAWKS HEAD COACH ADMITS HIS FAULTS AND TAKES ACCOUNTABILITY

After yesterday's training, Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson was more candid than ever. When answering a reporter's question, he mentioned that head coaches have less time than assistants to have one-on-one talk with players. He has always said to himself that he would try to communicate with his players as much as possible, but he says that sometimes he does not have time. To solve this problem, the Hawks head coach says he always comes back to past decisions with the players. He thinks it's important to talk to them individually, so everyone is on the same page.

Two games ago, Luke Richardson decided to use Jonathan Toews, Max Domi and Philip Kurashev when there were 26 seconds left in the game. "After the game I said to myself I made a mistake, Tyler [Johnson] should have been there. I should have pulled Kurashev," Richardson said.

Luke Richardson spoke to him after the game. "He had made a huge block in that game. I told him he deserved to be out there and that he should expect to be out there in a similar situation," he said.

So far this season, Luke Richardson's team has just 26 points in 41 games and sits in last place in the standings. But Richardson attitude is exactly the kind of attitude the Blackhawks will need during their rebuild. The young players need a coach who can communicate well and guide them along the way. It's fun to see the new approach coaches like Richardson are taking with their players. Coaches like him and Martin St-Louis are clearly showing different coaching methods than old-school coaches like John Tortorella and Bruce Boudreau. Are the new coaches better than the old? Only time will tell.
