As NHL players have given their opinion on different rules in the NHL over the years, imagine how the game might be if they could implement these changes in the game immediately. What kind of impact would it have on the composition of the game?
Josh Morrissey of the Winnipeg Jets, a power-play specialist who specializes in these situations, suggested that if the team with the man-advantage scores, they should be allowed to continue getting the full two minutes. As a matter of fact, this would be of particular benefit to teams that have great power-play systems.
By using an old USA Hockey experiment of killing the ability to ice on the penalty kill, Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins brought up an interesting way of keeping the penalty kill competitive. The result of this would be that teams would be forced to make plays, which would keep the pressure on the team trying to kill penalties.
It comes as no surprise to me that Tage Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres suggested the silliest idea of them all so far, which is to allow a goal that is kicked in to stick. Moreover, he thought that doing this was in fact a skill that could be learned, instead of just cheating. This may not be the idea we agree with, but it certainly is an interesting idea.
