Derek King doesn't think the Blackhawks are close
One thing that fans in Chicago have grown used to is that Derek King doesn't often mince words. He handles his coaching career exactly how he handled his playing career, which is admirable. Over the All-Star break Derek King was "how obvious it is that the Hawks don't stack up well against teams like the Wild, Avalanche or even the Panthers."
King didn't bite his tongue when he honestly replied, "obviously you see what these top teams have and that shows you what we're missing. Whether it's another guy that can put the puck in the net or a playmaker or some (bottom) guys that can bring some energy."
King continued, "I mean there's some work to do. Whoever comes in here (as the General Manager) is gonna have a job. It's gonna be some work."
The Blackhawks have already interivewed 5 different candidates for the vacant GM job including interim GM Kyle Davidson, Peter Chiarelli, Eric Tulsky, Scott Mellanby and Cubs assistant GM Jeff Greenberg, but whoever takes over in Chicago definitely has their hands full.
