The two teams themselves are far apart in terms of their competitive standing for a Stanley Cup. The Oilers were considered Cup favourites last year, and even after the summer concluded, they were still seen as contenders.
However, the team has now fallen flat on its face, and the reasons for their struggles seem endless at the moment. One contributing factor happens to be the lack of a lights-out performance from their top star, Connor McDavid.
Last year's numbers were outstanding and impressive for what McDavid achieved, leading the team alongside his friend and teammate Leon Draisaitl to the second round of the playoffs.
On the other hand, the Blackhawks have begun the rebuilding process of their franchise and are in their second year of this endeavour. After drafting Bedard, General Manager Kyle Davidson acquired several veterans to help insulate Bedard and allow him and Kevin Korchinski to adapt to the new league they have joined.
It's almost impossible to compare the two players as they differ significantly in size and where they are in their careers. It's safe to say, though, that both players have been and will continue to be the face of the NHL.
