Recently, the acquisition of Cutter Gauthier from the Philadelphia Flyers has put Zegras in a tricky situation with the Ducks. While it is uncertain if Zegras will be available come the trade deadline, some teams are interested in him.
The Anaheim Ducks currently have a strong forward core, and with Gauthier in the mix, Zegras has become the odd man out. Teams are taking note of this and are looking to take advantage of the possibility of acquiring him.
NHL Insider Shayna Goldman of The Athletic has named six teams that are potential landing spots for Zegras. These teams are the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and Washington Capitals.
Zegras still has two years left on his current contract with an average annual value of $5.75 million. Rebuilding teams may find a way to make Zegras a fit, but the cost to acquire him will not be cheap. The transaction would require an NHL player, a top-tier prospect, and a 1st round pick for the forward.
One of the teams mentioned by Goldman, mainly the Blackhawks would make a lot of sense for Zegras, as he would slot into the top six easily and give the team even more firepower.
Zegras, Bedard, and Reichel would be a lethal combination on ice, should the trade come to pass in the future.
