When your best defensemen has a career year and one of the best seasons from a d-man in recent history, you'd usually like to keep that guy on your team. But that's not the case for the San Jose Sharks who are still actively trying to move Erik Karlsson.

Erik Karlsson is coming off an incredible 101 point season, which is one of the best from a defensemen in recent NHL history. Despite a milestone year the San Jose Sharks missed the postseason and are actively trying to move the 33-year-old.

A big reason the Sharks are trying to move him is partly due to the large cap hit that comes with Karlsson. Erik Karlsson's salary is $11,500,000 with a $11,500,000 cap hit for the 2023-24 season. His salary is comprised of $1,000,000 in signing bonuses and $10,500,000 in base salary. All together the contract holds $92,000,000 that started in 2019-20 running through till 2026-27.

As of June 16, 2023. The Sharks are actively working with Erik Karlsson to find him a new team this offseason.
