In an unexpected turn of events, the Chicago Blackhawks have made a surprising roster move by calling up defenseman Isaac Phillips from the Rockford IceHogs, the team's AHL affiliate.
This move, however, comes with a twist, as the Blackhawks have placed defenseman Kevin Korchinski on the non-roster list.
Putting a player on the non-roster opens up a valuable roster spot for the Blackhawks. Typically, players are placed on the non-roster for reasons other than injuries, like attending special events, personal matters or disabilities, says the NHL.
In this case, the 2023 World Junior Camp for Team Canada kicks off tomorrow, and many believe Korchinski, who is eligible for one more season in the World Juniors, will be representing his country in the upcoming tournament, but sadly, that is not the case.
