The Chicago Blackhawks have the most valuable trade deadline asset on their hands, or should we say asset(s)? Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane are both on their final years of their contracts as a Chicago Blackhawk. Jonathan Toews has not commented on the trade talks much, but Patrick Kane has sure made things clear and it seems as if he'll be traded within the upcoming days.
We can now cross the New York Rangers off of the list as they have traded for Vladimir Tarasenko, the Rangers were reportedly Kane's #1 option, and Kane seemed very bummed during his interview, saying the following:
Clearly frustrated as his #1 destination in the New York Rangers is now off the board, but TSN co-host and former NHL'er by the name of Carlo Colaicacovo has dropped a bomb, revealing huge info:
Auston Matthews and Patrick Kane on the same team? This would be something crazy to see, but the Maple Leafs cap situation would likely mean the Blackhawks will need to retain 50% or more of Kane's salary for his remaining term with only one year left. Likely something the Blackhawks would be willing to do if it meant Kane stays happy.
