Team Canada Captain Sidney Crosby Breaks Silence On The National Anthem Controversey
Canada and Team USA's match last night was a barnburner, and after the game, Sidney Crosby was asked about how he felt when Canadians booed the National Anthem.
The first part of the Four Nations Face-Off has been held in Canada, at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
It's reached its apex, as Canada was defeated by an electric match as Team USA played with purpose and ferocity.
After the loss,
Sidney Crosby was hounded by the press and asked his opinion of the continued booing of the National Anthem.
Rather than addressing the situation which is tense on both sides of the aisle, he'd rather make room to discuss the game.
Which was really what mattered and instead would say in short:
Sidney Crosby on boos: « I will not enter this debate.
We respect the hymns, and I will leave it at that. »
For many,
Crosby is holding the middle ground an issue that is a powder keg for hockey fans everywhere.
He decided to stay the kind of leader we've expected him to be, humble, and instead of making the entire situation about himself, and his perspective instead of enflaming tensions has remained calm, cool, and collected.
The kind of mentality that has won him three Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh, his home away from.
While
Brad Marchand explicitly stated that players shouldn't shoulder the blame for the political situation at the moment.
Brad Marchand, about the spectators who booed the American anthem at the Bell Centre last night
« They should not boo the Americans during this anthem.
They have nothing to do with the political events taking place.
I feel bad for those guys at the time.
I don't think that's correct. »
Certainly, they both have valid opinions on the topic, however in order to remain diplomatic all sides have to be heard.
This includes the irate Canadian fans.
In the context of a game, the lack of respect for the athletes seems apparent. But for some fans, it's not just about the athlete's themselves.
What do you think about the situation?
