"The Chicago Blackhawks basically eliminated themselves from the playoff race last night after they received a beatdown from the New York Rangers on home ice. The 6-3 loss really stings and now the Hawks sit 8 points out of the second Wild Card spot and 15 points out of third place in the Central. It's more than likely that general manager Stan Bowman now goes into full sell mode and tries to get some return at the NHL trade deadline. One name we heard before he was injured was forward Brandon Saad who despite being injured has still been able to register 18 goals in 48 games after scoring 23 goals last year on a dismal Blackhawks team. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports on the latest edition of the "31 Thoughts" podcast that the Boston Bruins have labeled Saad as a potential target. It would have to be a "hockey trade" as both teams are right up against the salary cap with less than $200k of room. He's also signed through the 2020-21 season so it would be more than a rental for the Bruins and could land the Hawks a better return.
