Patrick Kane reveals true thoughts on future in Detroit when asked by Red Wings reporter
Patrick Kane is prepping for his 2nd season with the Detroit Red Wings, training camp persists, until the start of the NHL season.
That will be October 10th for the Red Wings, when they face off against
Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Kane was asked about the future in Detroit, under Steve Yzerman, since he was able to train with a lot of the Red Wings prospects in Traverse City, MI.
He mentioned
Nate Danielson, who is one of the Red Wings top prospects, who was drafted 9th overall, in 2023.
Eight selections after
Connor Bedard, and Patrick Kane is already comparing him to Bedard. A huge compliment for the Wings' ability to scout talent.
«Danielson's really impressive,» Kane said. «Skated with him a little bit when I first came into Detroit (this summer). A lot of skill, kind of reminds me a little bit of (Connor) Bedard, the way he plays and the way he stickhandles and shoots. I know he's a high-end prospect as well, but he looks like he's got a bright future.»
To which Danielson replied humbly and complimented the former Blackhawks legend himself. To which Danielson idolized him.
«I don't know about that,» Danielson said. «Connor is a pretty special player. It's cool to hear a compliment from Patrick Kane. He's obviously someone I look up to. Just having him here, he's someone I try to pick his brain, see what he thinks, what he likes to do.
«He's kind of like Sidney Crosby to me. He's someone I grew up watching and idolizing. I think I've watched his shootouts thousands of times. It definitely gives you a bit of a confidence boost hearing him say something like that about you.»M
While Danielson may have his comparables to Bedard, we have yet to see him play one game in the NHL.
His scouting report sounds promising for the Wings down the road, when someone like
Dylan Larkin exits the organization, if ever.
Hardworking two-way center with good size and mobility. Possesses a strong shot and some goal scoring upside but will have to diversify his offensive attack to reach his full potential.
In 2023-2024 with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks, he scored 41 points( 12 G, 29 A) in 28 games.
It's hard to tell what his upside will truly look like until we get a head-to-head against Bedard. But Bedard certainly has already carved a name out in NHL history for himself.
I doubt Danielson will have the chance to do the same, as he never had the explosive career in the WHL like Bedard had.
