Gary Bettman and the NHL decided to help the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Battle of Ontario in the playoffs, and defeat the Ottawa Senators instead of letting them choke in round 1 again this year.

The NHL has seen fit to break the Toronto Maple Leafs' generational curse. You can yell "1967" all you want, but the NHL has other ideas.
As NHL fans accuse the league of giving the Maple Leafs and Craig Berube a dose of their own screwup, they let it slide in Game 6 against the Senators.
"1967", you continue to yell like "Freebird" at a random rock concert, but the curse has failed.
The night started in a precarious position for the Maple Leafs, as they had originally had William Nylander's brother on their lineup chart to play tonight instead of his superstar brother, William.
This would've suspended William Nylander in Game 6, but officials caught it and let the Maple Leafs know before puck drop, Elliotte Friedman reported.
Nylander had 3 points on the Leafs' and including 2 goals.
Yikes. The original-six NHL team was allowed to let that slide; instead of removing William from the lineup, they informed officials of the foul-up. Fortunately for the Senators, William produced nothing but bagels on the ice.
Maybe they should've let Alex get a shot tonight?
Maybe one day we'll have an honest discussion of how all of this transpired and how another team, like the Columbus Blue Jackets in their spot, wouldn't have gotten a verbal warning, instead of removing a star player from the lineup.
Either way, the Maple Leafs under Craig Berube are a different beast. This isn't the St. Louis Blues from 2019, but he's been able to push them this far.
The Maple Leafs advanced to the 2nd-round for the first time in years!
The last time this happened? They were unceremoniously pushed out of the playoffs by their existential rivals, the Boston Bruins.
Former Blackhawks forward Alex Nylander almost ruined the Maple Leafs night.
