NHL faces favoritism accusations of one specific team after accumulating least amount of penalties in history

There has been one team in the NHL that appears to have received some favoritism allegations since joining the league as one of the most recent expansion teams, and a recent statistic may have just confirmed it all.

The Vegas Golden Knights have been under scrutiny several times since joining the NHL in the 2017-18 season due to circumventing the salary cap on multiple occasions to ice a roster in the playoffs that is over the league's salary cap maximum.

Now, another controversy erupts and it certainly is not a good look for the NHL and their on-ice officials.

The Vegas Golden Knights' PR team released several season-ending fun facts about their team on social media, and one specific statistic is turning heads.

Out of every 32 NHL teams in the 2024-25 season, they were the least penalized team, accumulating only 197 penalties.

This is also the first time in NHL history that a team has been penalized less than 200 times throughout their 82-game season.

Their 197 penalties tallied up on the season is also 46 less than their total in 2022-23, when they had 243.

This certainly draws attention to a possible favoritism by the NHL if there was not already a boatload of controversy surrounding the Golden Knights organization after placing Mark Stone on injury reserve for the past two seasons, all for him to oddly return for round one game one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
