Marc-Andre Fleury decides his playing career isn't quite over yet and makes a major decision

Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has announced that his NHL career is over, and it ended quicker than he would have preferred after the Wild were knocked from the postseason by the Vegas Golden Knights.

His career officially ends as the 2nd winningest goalie in NHL history behind only his boyhood idol Martin Brodeur along with 3 Stanley Cup wins.

However, he's not quite ready to hang up the pads from competitive hockey just yet. He announced that he'll be joining his former Penguins teammate and good friend Sidney Crosby on the Canadian roster for the upcoming IIHF World Championships that begin on May 9.

It will be his 1st and only time playing in the World Championships.

Fleury, who was taken 1st overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, played several years in the Steel City and helped them to the 2009 Stanley Cup, the franchise's first title since 1992.

His tenure in Pittsburgh included another pair of Stanley Cups, playing mostly the backup role behind Matt Murray. In 2017, Fleury was scooped up by the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL Expansion Draft; he became their 1st player in team history and instantly became a fan favorite.

Shockingly, the Golden Knights traded him to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021; Fleury allegedly found out about the move on Twitter rather than receiving a courtesy phone call from management.

After a short stint with the Blackhawks, Fleury was dealt in 2022 at the Trade Deadline to the Wild.
