Hockey community mourns the devastating loss of former star enforcer at the age of 61

It was reported today that former Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks enforcer, Lyndon Byers, passed away at the age of 61.
While we expect an offseason to be chock-full of excitement, there remains a caveat emptor. A sadness spreads in the hockey community today, as former Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks forward Lyndon Byers passed away tragically at the age of 61.
The Boston Bruins organization would announce the sad news that Byers had passed away at the age of 61 on social media.
The Bruins would issue a statement upon his passing:
"The Boston Bruins are deeply saddened by the passing of Lyndon Byers.
Lyndon was a fan favorite across his nine seasons in the Black & Gold thanks to his rugged, rough-and-tumble style and was a key cog on the B's teams that made trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 1988 and 1990.
Following his playing career, Lyndon spent some 25 years as a local radio personality, entertaining scores of New Englanders every day with his quick wit and boisterous voice.
A son of Nipawin, Saskatchewan, Lyndon became a true Bostonian and we will miss him dearly. He is forever a part of our Bruins family.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Annie, and son, Will, during this very difficult time."

Byers, who played 279 career NHL games, was originally selected by the Bruins in the 1982 NHL Draft, 39th overall. He was a career enforcer, scoring 71 points (28-43) and 1,081 PIMs.
Byers would take his career to San Jose and would finish his hockey career there. He'd later return to Boston and become a radio personality for WAAF-FM, and would expand his career into movie and television, and would star on a sitcom called "Rescue Me".
We send our deepest condolences to the Byers family, friends, and acquaintances in these difficult times.
