Former Blackhawks forward Corey Perry, who had his contract terminated with the team last year, has announced his intentions are for his career after this season.
NHL veteran Corey Perry is proving that age is just a number, coming up as an unsung hero for the Edmonton Oilers during their journey to their 2nd straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.
Perry is now appearing in his 5th Stanley Cup Final in the last 6 years with his 4th team; he's lost them all. He does have a Stanley Cup on his resume, winning with the Anaheim Ducks in his sophomore year in the NHL of 2006-07.
When asked if he's thought about retirement, Perry said that it's not on his mind.
Not really, no. It's just not in me to think about it; there are other things that I love doing. I love playing, I love being around the room and I don't think that's going to come to my head anytime soon.
Perry signed with the Blackhawks ahead of 2023-24 to play alongside former 1st overall pick Connor Bedard, but had his contract terminated by the team after a breach of the team's personal conduct policy.
He then signed a 1-year, $775,000 deal with the Oilers soon afterward. This past summer, he re-signed with the Oilers on another 1-year deal with a higher AAV (average annual value) of $1.4 million.
So far in the postseason, Perry has 10 points (6G, 3A) in 17 games.
