The long-time Boston Bruins captain and veteran of 1680 NHL games has reportedly hung up his skates after failing to ink a contract with an NHL club.

The six-foot-nine inch, hulking defenceman from Trencin, Slovakia., was selected by the New York Islanders in the 1996 NHL Draft with the 56th overall selection in the third round of the draft.
While Chara's ridiculously powerful slapshot was perhaps the top tool in his repertoir, his ability to bring a winning, never give up attitude to each team he's played for is the top characteristic that should be implenented into every young hockey players list of goals, to be a guy that the guys want to be around.

The New York Islanders hold the distinction of being the team which drafted Chara in 1996, and also the team that he retired from some 26-plus years later.
Congrats on a hall of fame career, surely your jersey number 33 will be retired in Long Island, New York., and Boston, Massachussets.
