With the offseason fading away and summer coming to an end, the NHL training camp season is set to commence. All teams are gearing up to unveil their new rosters and showcase the players they've acquired over the past few months. Concurrently, the focus remains on the Professional Tryout (PTO) season, with several teams exploring this avenue in recent weeks.

Amidst a complete roster overhaul, the Blackhawks are a team that could consider PTOs. They are seeking affordable assistance, particularly in terms of veteran presence, as young players continue to integrate into the lineup. There are several potential candidates the Blackhawks should consider, taking calculated risks.
One of the Blackhawks' primary concerns lies in their defensive core. Even at the age of 37, a player like Alex Edler could provide valuable support. Edler's inclusion would be a cost-effective endeavour, offering experience that could aid the development of the younger players and position him as a mentor.
Having been a prominent defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks for many years, he could also serve as a trade option near the deadline, appealing to teams seeking a budget-friendly defensive choice.
The second player of interest is Colin White. Plagued by injuries throughout his career, he currently seeks another opportunity to prove his capability in the game he loves. Last year, White was a key member of the Florida Panthers' roster, and he contributed to their journey to the Stanley Cup finals, where the Golden Knights defeated them.
His valuable experience, combined with his penalty-killing prowess and suitability for a bottom-six role, could provide the Blackhawks with added depth. Given the right contract terms, he could emerge as a viable choice for the upcoming year.
Lastly, Paul Stastny, in his 18th year in the NHL, could serve as a veteran forward. He would offer guidance to players such as Taylor Hall, Nick Foligno, and Corey Perry, further solidifying the leadership group as they continue to support Connor Bedard and other emerging talents. Despite being past his prime at 37, Stastny could provide a wealth of knowledge and mentorship as the Blackhawks continue their rebuilding efforts, aiding younger players like Bedard and Lukas Reichel.
During an extensive rebuilding phase like this, the Blackhawks should leave no stone unturned. As they diligently search for talent and players who can contribute in the near and potentially distant future, every avenue should be explored.
