To win a Stanley Cup you need to have everyone contributing and having those unsung playoff heros every Cup team has including now the Colorado Avalanche with Forward Valeri Nichushkin. This playoffs Nichushkin had a Conn Smythe worthy playoff run for the Avalanche.
However We learned Valeri Nichushkin reached out and apologized recently to his former team and General Manager Jim Nill. Nichushkin was drafted back in the day by the Dallas Stars in 2012 selecting Nichushkin 10th overall. However after five year of development with the Stars and even playing two years back in the KHL Nichushkin however like many draft picks it's unpredictable who's going to work out and who isn't, Nichushkin didn't work out not at a 10th overall pick and was ultimately bought out by the Stars after the 2018-19 season.
Avalanche General Manager Joe Sakic believed that Nichushkin could help the Avalanche and he was right having the best season of his career including helping the Avalanche to their first Stanley Cup in 21 years.
During this weekend at the NHL Draft in Montreal Nill shared that the former Star forward Nichushkin approached him and apologized saying
"I wasn't who I should have been with you guys." To which Nill replied, "Sometimes you have to have a change." Nill ended with saying, "Give the organization credit, but you gotta give Val credit. He realized, 'I need to change.' Sometimes players need that."
