Top Prospect Refuses to Sign With His NHL Team and Will Hit The Free Agent Market

The Buffalo Sabres are surprisingly hot as of late, they have a +17 goal differential which surpasses the Carolina Hurricanes and many other top of the standing teams.

It seems as if their many years of ''tanking'' and being the bottom team each and every year have paid off, but now a situation has came up and it suggests they could've gone a different way of doing things when drafting.

The Buffalo Sabres have a DEEP prospect pool, in multiple positional categories in one in particular is causing issues. The Sabres drafted goaltender Erik Portillo in 2019, but the Sabres are now left with several goalies waiting for opportunities and sadly Portillo is the odd one out.

That leaves the 22-year old goaltender without an opportunity to come due to the Sabres being overloaded in the goaltending category, so many believe his talent is being wasted. He's expected to hit the free agent market, and it'll be interesting to see if anyone takes a shot at giving this kid a home to develop with an organization.
