Based on CapFriendly.com, the Boston Bruins have a project cap space of $429K. Due to their terrible situation, they have had to trade players like Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno.

This season's team will likely look significantly different from the one that won the President Trophy last year, as they may yet lose another key player.

A NHL Scout points out that Matt Grzelcyk might be the odd man out if Mason Lohrei continues to play well.

As well, numerous teams have inquired about Grzelcyk's availability, as the Blackhawks might be interested in him.

As a left-handed defenseman, Grzelcyk would be an excellent fit for Chicago, according to the NHL Scout.

«Chatter is picking up more as I scout preseason games here,» a Northeast-based NHL pro scout told Boston Hockey Now on Wednesday morning. «Teams are starting to see if maybe they have a young player that can make the jump or eat up more minutes. Look at what the kid [Mason] Lohrei did in Buffalo last night. Sure, he made some mistakes, but he didn't get down on himself, and man, he ate some minutes up. I watched him a lot last season. I think he could be ready for the show.»

«I don't really know about (Derek) Forbort, but I can tell you that teams are interested in Grzelcyk,» the scout told BHN. «Maybe Donny [Sweeney] should ring up Kyle [Davidson] again in Chicago? Grzelcyk is better than any left-shot D they have now, and they have cap space. He could be great on their powerplay.»

Would Kyle Davidson be wise to make an offer for Grzelcyk? With the record-winning Boston Bruins, the defenseman had four goals and 22 assists in 75 games, and he could also provide leadership on the ice.
