The son of Flyers general manager Daniel Briere, Carson S. Briere, received probation for pushing a woman's wheelchair down the stairs at a Pennsylvania bar earlier this year.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office and Judge John J. Mead approved their applications for Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition, a first-time, non-violent offenders program.

Carson Briere and Patrick Carrozzi, who played hockey and lacrosse at Mercyhurst University, respectively, will undergo 15 months of probation. Upon successfully completing the program, their charges of second-degree misdemeanor criminal mischief will be dismissed and expunged.

The incident, at Sullivan's Irish Pub in March, gained attention when a video of the two shoving the wheelchair down the stairs went viral. The wheelchair belonged to Sydney Benes, who lost her legs in a 2021 car accident. Benes needed assistance downstairs to use the restroom.

Carson Briere and Carrozzi both apologized to Benes in court, expressing remorse for their actions. Briere's attorney noted that he has undergone counseling, volunteered for a disabled veterans hockey club, and intends to cover the damages to Benes' wheelchair.

«I am deeply sorry for my behavior on Saturday,» Briere stated in March. «There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment.»
