The Chicago Blackhawks let Pius Suter walk in free agency this past offseason. In doing so, he signed a two-year 3.25 million dollar contract with the Detroit Red Wings. Letting Suter go is another decision the Blackhawks definitely should be regretting, especially as they have to ponder a rebuild.
During his time with the Blackhawks, Suter put up 27 points in 55 games. Since being moved to Detroit, Suter has put up 20 points in 47 games and has been a bright part on the Wing's team. He has won most of his draws and is averaging over 16 minutes of ice time a night. On the other hand, the Blackhawks have been struggling to win games and be competitive offensively.
Moving on from Suter was a big mistake for the team.
Suter might not have fit into the long-term plans for the Hawks, though it would have been nice to keep an asset for trade purposes. Also, Suter's lower salary could have been helpful for other teams to absorb a key player come trade deadline.
Suter did play well with DeBrincat and Kane, but there wasn't a lot of consistency. The coaches always mixing up the lines to see 'what works' often will do that. What do you think about letting him go?
