The Chicago Blackhawks signed Seth Jones for 8 years with an AAV of $9.5 million in July of 2021.

There are plenty of critics of Jones since he arrived in Chicago, as his contract is viewed as an albatross by many hockey analysts and fans.

Even though Jones is not in his prime, because Columbus got the majority of that before he was traded to Chicago, he is still an underrated NHL veteran defenseman.

In JFresh's opinion, Seth Jones has been a big benefit for the Blackhawks, as he eats up lots of minutes on ice for the team, similar to his play in Columbus prior to his arrival, as one of their top pairing defensemen.

As evidenced by the tweet above, he's been very helpful on the power play and penalty kill units for a not-so-great team in Chicago.

A cheaper contract in another market, like Tampa Bay or New York, would make his contract a steal, and he would at the very least be in the top two pairings.

In spite of the contract's shortcomings, he provides a valuable service to a growing team and adds veteran presence that players like Kevin Korchinski could benefit from.

As a member of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2022-2023, Seth Jones scored 12 goals and 25 goals for 37 points in 72 games.
