The full trade breakdown looked like this -
On September13, 2018 Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion sent Erik Karlsson, and Francis Perron to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forwards Chris Tierney and Rudolfs Balcers, along with defenseman Dylan Demelo. The final two pieces are the big ones, that Doug Wilson GM of the Sharks is certainly angrily shaking his head about. Josh Norris was the final player included in the package that saw Karlsson leave the nation's capital, along with an unprotected first round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft, which turned out to be Tim Stuetzle.
Since the trade, teams are hesitant to include unprotected draft picks as part of any trade. While the Sharks were left picking up the pieces, teams learned a valuable lesson at the peril of the Sharks.
Here's a look at Karlsson's stats since the trade -

Surely at the time Doug Wilson was ecstatic with the deal, but since the tides have changed and a Tim Stuetzle and Josh Norris alongside the rest of the Sharks young talent, would leave Wilson sitting pretty happy.
And Karlsson has battled injuries since the trade, which has substantially effected his once elite level skills and production.
