Marian Hossa returned to the United Center and signed a one-day contract to retire a Chicago Blackhawk on Thursday night. Fans were also treated to a surprise announcement that Hossa's number, 81, would be retired by the Blackhawks during the 2022-23 season.
Unfortunately, all the fanfare of the occasion drained the home team of their offense, as they fell 2-0 to the Seattle Kraken, in the newest expansion franchise's first road contest in Chicago. Seattle netminder Philipp Grubauer made 29 saves in shutting out the Blackhawks. Alex Wennberg scored the game-winner for the Kraken and Jordan Eberle sealed the game with less than two minutes left.
Kevin Lankinen started for the home squad and saved 29 of the 31 shots he faced. Chicago's losing streak was extended to six games. The club's last win was a 4-3 decision in Los Angeles on March 24.
