Toews was the first to announce that he will be staying sidelined with the NHL for another season as he continues to battle his health issues regarding long COVID. He explained to the world that he feels his health needs to come first as he continues to heal from the virus that plagued him over a year and a half ago.
Kane, on the other hand, has been rehabbing his hip after undergoing major surgery at the close of the New York Rangers series. Many reports in the NHL and on the web indicate that Kane is rehabbing ahead of schedule and is now willing to listen to offers from teams that may want his services. One team in particular that has emerged as a potential destination is the Detroit Red Wings.
According to John Dietz, who reports for the Blackhawks, he has a source that knows Kane quite well and suggests that Kane would like to reunite with former teammate Alex DeBrincat. DeBrincat was traded to the Red Wings this summer from the Ottawa Senators after expressing no desire to sign long-term with the team.
That being said, Chris Johnston, an NHL insider at TSN, explained that there may be more teams interested in Kane than just the Red Wings.
He stated,
Kane is coming off his $10.5 million per season contract, and it remains to be seen which team will ultimately sign him.
