The winds of change are blowing through the Chicago Blackhawks' world as the Wirtz Corporation, the powerhouse behind the team, gears up for a sensational move.

The family-controlled umbrella company, known for its extensive influence in the city, is relocating to a vintage Art Deco building situated on the iconic Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River.

The landmark structure at 333 N. Michigan Ave., owned by the Wirtz Corporation, is not just any building. Designed in 1929, it recently underwent a jaw-dropping $75 million renovation, transforming it into a modern marvel.

Nestled at the historic site of Ft. Dearborn, the founding settlement of Chicago, this building has deep roots and is now home to the renowned Blackhawks Store.

For years, the Wirtz family conducted their business from offices at 666 N. Lake Shore Drive, within the former American Furniture Mart. Overlooking Lake Michigan, this location held sentimental value for the late patriarchs Arthur, Bill, and Rocky Wirtz.

However, following the passing of Rocky Wirtz on July 25, 2023, Danny Wirtz assumed leadership of the Wirtz Corporation, paving the way for a new era.

The Wirtz Corporation, a juggernaut with ownership stakes in the Blackhawks and liquor wholesaler Breakthru Beverage Group, boasts a substantial portfolio of buildings across Chicago. Yet, the vintage gem at Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive stands out as the only all-commercial structure in their repertoire—excluding their half-ownership of the United Center.

Danny Wirtz, now Chairman and President of the Wirtz Corporation, expressed his excitement about the move, stating, "It will be a beautiful new headquarters for our family office, and it's in one of our buildings, which makes it even more special. It's an old vintage gem."

Recognized for its classy Art Deco architecture, the historic building, designed by the esteemed firm Holabird and Root, holds a special place in the city's heart. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a Chicago Landmark, it underwent a comprehensive rehabilitation. This included a full-service amenity floor, updated systems, enhanced security measures, and the introduction of state-of-the-art tech suites ranging from 1,100 to 10,300 square feet.

As the Wirtz Corporation settles into its splendid new headquarters, the Chicago Blackhawks' universe undergoes a transformation that reflects not just a corporate shift but a commitment to preserving and enhancing the city's rich history.
