Blackhawks make major announcement in the name of fallen owner Rocky Wirtz

Rocky's Bar, a tribute to the late Blackhawks owner W. Rockwell "Rocky" Wirtz, is now open for business near Section 119 of the United Center.

Located just steps from where Wirtz used to chat with fans, the stylish space offers cozy seating at high-top tables, although you won't find any bar stools. The interior design of Rocky's reflects Rocky Wirtz's outgoing personality, community ties, and personal preferences, with carefully chosen materials, patterns, furniture, and art.

Wirtz, who passed away on July 25, 2023, at the age of 70, played a crucial role in the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup victories in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

His son, Danny Wirtz, aged 46, has taken over as chairman and CEO of both the Blackhawks and the Wirtz Corporation, the private company that owns the team and Breakthru Beverage Group, a prominent liquor wholesaler operating in 14 states and Canada.


Rocky's Bar caters to fans with a full menu featuring classic cocktails, wine, and beer, including Rocky Wirtz's personal favorites—Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay and very dry Ketel One martinis with bleu cheese-stuffed olives.

According to Danny Wirtz, Rocky was a beloved figure in the liquor industry. Sonoma-Cutrer, based near Santa Rosa, California, even dedicated a vineyard in his honor.

Ketel One, produced by the Nolet Distillery in Schiedam, Holland, holds special significance due to Wirtz's close ties with the Nolet Family, who established the distillery in 1691.


Rocky's opens its doors alongside the United Center for pre-game enjoyment and remains accessible for half an hour after the final horn or buzzer.
