An Update On Legend Carey Price's Future In The NHL: Could He Be The Next Shea Weber?
Carey Price will not be with the Montreal Canadiens to begin the 2023-2024 season, as expected.
Since Price cannot train at a professional level, and after his recent battle with substance abuse and rehabilitation, he is unlikely to lace up skates in the near future.
Since the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals, he hasn't been on the ice for the Montreal Canadiens, which has caused salary cap issues.
Considering Price's cap hit and inability to contribute on-ice, the team might consider trading his $10.5 Million AAV, which is mostly covered by insurance.
Well, most likely - barring a miracle. I'm still under contract & I still hold on hope to fact I could play again but the probabilities are falling by the months.
I feel like I could go out there at this training camp and make the team but then I play in a softball tournament and my knee swells up for 2 weeks and I'm like 'OK, a full burden of a season's load, it's not going to cut it.'
«Its just not going to happen,» Carey Price says about his knee healing well enough for him to play hockey again #Habs #HabsIO
With 3 years left on his Montreal Canadiens deal, Price is 36 years old and struggling with injuries. Is Kent Hughe going to be able to find a partner for Price's contract? In light of how he negotiated Shea Weber's contract, it doesn't sound unlikely.
During a press conference today, Price was announced as CFMotor's new ambassador, an off-road vehicle manufacturer.
As the conversation turned to hockey, he was asked if he planned to return to the sport.
In response, Price said he would find it difficult to regain the physicality he had when he played. According to him, his goal is to rehab his knee so that it can support him in his daily life, not just in hockey.
