Washington Capitals star forward facing long-term absence after gruesome skate blade laceration incident
There was a gruesome scene during Ovechkin's NHL goal-tying record night as a Washington Capitals star forward had to be helped off the ice by teammates after being cut by a skate blade during their game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Capitals are having a very strong finish to the end of the regular season, with playoffs upon us.
But during Friday's game against the Chicago
Blackhawks, an incident occurred that caused us all to pause.
The collision between himself and a
Blackhawks player happened at 15:38 remaining in the third period.
While he's been confirmed injured due to a skate blade, Head Coach Spencer Carberry would update the press on the situation.
An update on Aliaksei Protas from a sports doctor
Protas would only play 11:39 TOI last night before having to head to the locker room after the injury, he's been a key part to the Capitals' success this season, tallying 30 goals and 36 assists for 66 points in 76 games this season.
He'd leave the game and wouldn't be on the ice for Alex Ovechkin's 894th career goal scored against the Hawks.
With Protas out of the lineup, will this put a damper on their postseason plans?
According Dr. Harjas Grewal, this could be a very lengthy injury.
