DoPS Confirms Verdict For Dirty Hit On Mitch Marner in Game 4 Against Florida Panthers
Domi was officially fined by the NHL for his actions, with some experts suggesting he deserved nothing short of a suspension for trying to injure Barkov.
If you missed it, here's how it went down:
While the hit appeared dangerous, for the Leafs head coach Craig Berube, another hit landed on Mitch Marner earlier in the game was "10 times worse."
Here's what the coach had to say after the game, when he was asked to share his thoughts on Domi's hit on Barkov in his post-game press conference:
"Whatever. That's League stuff. To me, the (Dmitry) Kulikov hit on (Mitch) Marner was 10 times worse."
Berube is biased here, but the hit on Marner was dangerous.
Kulikov came at full speed toward Marner and raised his elbow at the last second to hit him on the head.
Even if a hit is dangerous, it doesn't make another hit less dangerous. Both hits could've resulted in serious injuries, and both must be condemned. It's hard to understand the NHL's decision, especially for Kulikov's hit.
The League will likely have to deal with an action-packed Game 5 after they failed to protect the players. With
Matthew Tkachuk saying he would go after
William Nylander for what Domi did to Barkov, players will need to keep their heads up.
