Sidney Crosby has signed a new contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, confirming his future with the team, but not for very long.
The Penguins announced today that Crosby agreed to a two-year extension worth $8.7 million per year.
At 37 years old, Crosby now has two more seasons to help the Penguins return to the playoffs after missing out the last two years. Last season, Crosby put up 94 points, leading many to think he would get a higher contract.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman even expected his new deal to be closer to $10 million a year, stating a $10.87m deal was his prediction.
Crosby's new contract keeps him in Pittsburgh through 2027, meaning they'll have their captain for two more years- then what? Will Crosby veer off in hopes to land on a contending team, or will he be retiring?
