Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau passed away on August 29th, a Thursday as victims of a reckless, drunk driver. Many in the hockey world are coping with the loss of Johnny and Matty, as the funeral information has been posted.
While we prepare for the fact that the Gaudreau's will be laid to rest soon, there's information to consider regarding Meredith.
How will she be cared for? How will Noa and Johnny Jr be taken care of?
Thanks to Article 23 of the NHLPA CBA, ensures that the Gaudreau's will be covered up to the same level of coverage they've had all year and it will remain active for six months, and then they can buy into a COBRA plan.
But, it sounds as if the Blue Jackets will step in and help the widow and her children too according to recent reports.
Also, she will receive Johnny's salary this one year, and $1m moving forward:
'No. His family will receive 1M by the insurance because of his death and his base salary this season because of his accidental death.'
According to section 23.6 of the CBA, this will happen in the event of a player's death:
So as a result of the CBA, she can continue her health coverage and she will receive a portion of Johnny's salary. The Gaudreau's have to be going through unimaginable pain, but at least they don't have to worry about their next meal or doctor's visit.
