TSN's Craig Button Drops Bombshell on Connor Bedard Not Re-Signing in Chicago

NHL Insider Craig Button dropped a bombshell on all of us today, as he discouraged Connor Bedard from re-signing in Chicago.
The Chicago Blackhawks look bad, as they've lost their last five games in a row. Their roster has a morale issue at the moment, as even with the small victories such as Connor Bedard's first goal after an eight-game drought was shut down by teammate Jason Dickinson.
«Doesn't matter,» Dickinson said. «It's great for them that they got a goal, but we lose a game 6-2, what does it matter if we score on the power play?
With that kind of talk, it's hard to stay motivated, especially when it comes from the mouths of your own teammates.
Bedard's been given two game misconducts, both being questionable calls by the referees.
Both fans and the team are frustrated, and the team needs to seriously consider the direction they're going as NHL Insider Craig Button unloaded on GM Kyle Davidson and the Hawks.
Button felt that the Blackhawks after two seasons have wasted the generational talent's time, and wants Bedard and his agency Newport Sports Management to hold off on signing an extension until they can prove they're capable of building a winning team around him.
«Bedard needs evidence for the Chicago Blackhawks that my signature on a long-term contract is worthy of me staying here,» Button said. «Because right now, there is nothing in Chicago that would make anybody think that staying there long-term is beneficial. That's how I feel about the whole thing.
The comments from someone who has connections in the media where Bedard calls home, should be a major wake-up call to GM Kyle Davidson that he needs to be serious about his next steps in the summer.
A misstep and a failure to sign Bedard would lead to the Blackhawks having to rebuild from the bottom up.
Fans calling for the trade of Bedard shows a lack of faith in the organization to get the rebuild done correctly.
Will Connor Bedard forego an extension with the Blackhawks, or will he push his way out into free-agency and find a new suitor?
