Chicago Blackhawks organization announces another signing of Austin Strand

Kyle Davidson has not stopped putting in the work this season, and his latest move came on Wednesday when the organization announced that they've signed defensemen Austin Strand to a one-year contract.

The Rockford Ice Hogs issued the following statement after the signing was made official:

"Austin joined us mid-season last year and helped stabilize a depleted defense," said IceHogs President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Mark Bernard. "He brings experience and energy to the rink each day and is someone that can help carry the coaching staff's message into the locker room. He will be a great asset this year as we will have a lot of young prospects that he can be a mentor to."

Strand is 27 years of age and was acquired by Rockford on a trade from the Chicago Wolves on Dec. 11 last year.

He is a 6-foot-3, 194lb defensemen who is strictly all shutdown and posted 1G, 3A in 10 games with the Wolves last season before being traded. Strand finished tied for second amongst Rockford Ice Hogs defensemen in goals, and led the team in goals per game.

Born in Calgary, he's going into his seventh pro season and will provide the Blackhawks/Icehogs leadership when needed.

Welcome to Chicago!
