Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving openly reveals insight on Mitch Marner's departure from the organization
New insight has been openly revealed by Toronto Maple Leafs general manager, Brad Treliving, regarding Mitch Marner's departure from the organization, and it is shocking.
Mitch Marner will undoubtedly be the biggest name available on the free agency market this offseason if the Toronto Maple Leafs do not sign him to a contract extension before July 1, 2025.
That being said,
Marner has been an absolute hot topic in the hockey community as of late, especially within Chicago, as the Blackhawks are in desperate need to acquire key-players like Marner in order to enforce a total re-build this summer as they intend to.
And it is looking pretty promising for the Chicago Blackhawks, as new insight by the Toronto Maple Leafs' general manager, Brad Treliving has surfaced regarding star,
Mitch Marner, and his potential departure from the organization.
Just last week, Marner was asked about a potential return to Toronto, and it seems as though the question was dodged by the 26-year old.
«I've always loved my time here I haven't processed anything yet.»
«It's so fresh. It's tough to anything right now, future wise. I was hoping to be playing hockey right now I'll sit down with my wife and decide (next steps) in the coming weeks.» Marner stated.
Additionally, just a few days ago, Leafs' GM Brad Treliving essentially echoed that sentiment in his own media availability.
When Treliving was asked about the team's makeup and Marner specifically, he offered up some cryptic predictions.
«There's some DNA that has to change in our team. If you keep getting to the same result, there's some DNA that needs to change. That's on me going forward.
«We've now started the planning, and it's early, for putting a team together for 2025-26.» Brad Treliving stated.
Treliving, did not entirely shut the door on a possible return for Marner, yet, he did reiterate that the team is taking time for themselves and to process their 2024/25 NHL season.
«We're in that process right now. Mitch and I had a discussion (during exit meetings). My discussion was let's take a step back, breathe a little We're going to meet as a staff, I'm going to be in touch with Mitch's representative. Mitch has a say in this as well.»
At this point, Marner seems to be history with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.
If that were the case, Marner would become a free agent this summer and would likely sign a huge contract elsewhere in the NHL.
