It appears that Kyle Davidson and the Chicago Blackhawks have found their man in former Detroit Red Wings head coach, Jeff Blashill.
According to NHL Insider David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, the
Chicago Blackhawks should be announcing Blashill as the team's new head coach soon.
It's a matter of when, not if. The 'just another year in Chicago' page also has just reported the signing of Blashill:
Since the announcement of an official hire wasn't made today, perhaps we will see movement on Thursday, when the ink dries on his new contract with the team.
With a new Head Coach, comes major staffing changes which we should expect out of the gate for Blashill.
He'll want to institute his own culture, and his own status quo, which will be different than Interim Coach Anders Sorensen's.
It'll be interesting to see how Blashill fares in Chicago, given the herculean task neither Luke Richardson nor
Anders Sorensen could place on their shoulders.
Blashill has to take the team out of the rebuild and build the team into a competitive unit.
His record in the Detroit Red Wings organization doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, but Kyle Davidson apparently feels differently.
Blashill's record in Detroit was as follows 204-261-72 (.447), and only one trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Blashill would take his ball and go home to Tampa Bay, where he served as an assistant coach under Jon Cooper for the last three seasons.
No telling if Blashill learned any lessons in Tampa Bay in order to improve his coaching skills, but now he'll have a chance to put them to use here in Chicago.
