The Chicago Blackhawks will be picking 3rd overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, as the Draft Lottery has concluded.
GM
Kyle Davidson will be able to select Michael Misa or Porter Martone based on the 3rd overall pick the team has won in the draft lottery this year.
We weren't expecting GM
Kyle Davidson and the team to be able to pick this high in the draft.
Originally the team had a chance of winning the 1st overall pick, at 13.5%, just below the San Jose Sharks at 18.5%.
It appears that the Sharks will win the Matthew Schaefer sweepstakes in 2025.
While Davidson and the Blackhawks will be satisfied with Michael Misa or Martone, as they are projected to go in the top 3 overall.
If the Blackhawks were to win the 1st overall pick again for another five years, due to new NHL rules implemented during the 2022 season.
In 2022, more fine print was added to the draft lottery proceedings. The
NHL added rules that a team could only move up 10 positions in the draft lottery, meaning the team with the best odds could not select lower than third overall. The league also ruled that no team can advance in the draft order via the draft lottery more than two times in any five-year period.
The Blackhawks won #2 in 2024 and used that to select defenseman
Artyom Levshunov, who has turned out to be NHL-ready sooner than we'd thought.
This season in 52 games with the IceHogs, he scored 22 points (5 goals, 17 assists).
Michael Misa or Porter Martone should be a stellar addition to the Blackhawks forward core, which based on the prospect pipeline, is deep.
