The worst case scenario happened for the Chicago Blackhawks at the NHL Draft Lottery last night, as the ping pong balls didn't land in their favor, leading them to pick third overall when finishing second-to-last in the standings.

In a shocking turn of events, the New York Islanders get the honor of picking first, as the Sharks dropped from first to second.
With the Blackhawks moving down to third overall, what on earth should they do and what are some possibilities?
To start, defenseman Matthew Schaefer is the best player available and is likely to be picked first by the Islanders.
Fortunately for Chicago, they already have their blue line figured out, and really, they didn't want that first pick, because that probably would have put them out of conversation to get Gavin McKenna next year, since they wouldn't be able to move up or select first until 2028 if they won this lottery. So, that isn't the problem.
Everyone notable insider has been talking about, wherever you look for the draft in June, #1 is Schaefer, and #2 is Michael Misa.
Misa is someone the Hawks desperately need. They need one more top forward prospect to really round everything out, and Michael is right there. Misa, at 18 years old, is the captain of the Saginaw Spirit. Misa put up 62 goals and 134 points in 65 games this season with Saginaw. He's got the hands, the speed, can shoot it from anywhere on the ice; he's incredible.
The ideal scenario was to get the second pick and let whoever got first select Schaefer, and then the Blackhawks pick up the scraps and take Misa, while having a shot at McKenna next year. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
The problem is San Jose.
The Sharks dropped from first to second, which pushed down Chicago.
The top two players after Schaefer and Misa are luckily forwards in Porter Martone and James Hagens, and they're pretty much tied in skill value. But compared to Michael Misa, it's a little underwhelming. Not a huge drop, but enough to bat an eye.
Martone and Hagens both had a good World Juniors for their respective countries, and as Martone seems to be the more hyped prospect, you can't look past Hagens; Hagens had a phenomenal freshman year at Boston College.
Now, in any universe that's out there, if the Sharks somehow pass on Michael Misa, like everyone did to Shane Wright, you jump on him like a pack of wolves and don't look back.
That's a gift. You're getting a 134-point player in their draft year at third overall, which isn't too far off what Connor Bedard had his year with Regina.
However, that is very unlikely, and you cannot bank on that. One thing should be set in stone: don't trade down.
This isn't the NFL. Obviously, if the options at #3 are Martone and Hagens, you take one of them.
But there's one player that seems to slip everyone's mind, and that's Caleb Desnoyers.
Desnoyers is listed at 6'2", 172 lbs. He's a big kid, but can move fast. Desnoyers had 84 points in 56 games with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL, and had five points in five games with Canada's U18 team.
Caleb, being 6'2, will add some much needed size to the forward core and down the middle itself. He'd be an exciting addition.
The last option could be trading the third pick for rights to a roster player.
It's bold, but it's about time the Blackhawks get bold and do something; not everyone is going to be content at staying at the bottom for too much longer.
