Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has issued a statement on young forward Macklin Celebrini that may have Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard thinking.
Both Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Calder Trophy nominee Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks decided to travel overseas and join the Canadian squad in the 2025 IIHF World Championships.
Despite a major age difference, the pair of players are routinely paired on the same line and combined for several points in Canada's recent 7-0 win over Slovakia.
One player who notably decided not to join the team was Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard, who openly expressed frustration at various points in the year about the constant losing that he was experiencing.
Bedard may be left thinking about his decision not to play for Canada after a big statement from Crosby on the impact that Celebrini has made.
[Celebrini] holds on to the puck so well and plays with a lot of poise, and he gave me a nice tap in [goal] tonight. I am hoping I can have as much poise as him and set him up for more goals at some point, but it has been a lot of fun to play with him. He makes me work hard in practice and in games, so I need to keep up with him.
Bedard is coming off his sophomore year in the NHL, scoring 67 points (23G, 44A). The Blackhawks missed the playoffs and are currently searching for their new full time head coach.
Bedard will be facing a critical year and will have a monumental decision to make about his future in CHicago, as his current contract is up next summer.
