NHL insider Frank Seravalli reveals the Blackhawks are completing a major signing
The Chicago Blackhawks have one of the best defensive prospects in the NHL, one of them being Sam Rinzel who will be signed by the team very soon.
Sam Rinzel currently plays for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the NCAA. He's completed his second year of collegiate hockey with the team and won Big Ten Defensive Player of The Year.
He scored 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 39 games with the Gophers.
Now with the college season ending,
Rinzel will be turning pro soon.
He just has one thing to do before he puts on a Rockford IceHogs or Chicago Blackhawks uniform.
If you look at his PuckPedia page, you'll find that at the moment
Rinzel has no contract with the Hawks.
At age 20 we can speculate he'll sign for three years with his new team after playing only two seasons in the NCAA.
For players between age 18-21, entry-level contracts must be for three years. Players aged 22-23 must sign two-year contracts. Players aged 24 must sign one-year contracts.
Will he be given the maximum deal available for prospects which could end up paying him $925K? We'll find out eventually.
For now, we can all smile and like Frank Seravalli says, be amazed at the embarrassing wealth of riches on the Hawks blue line.
His NCAA career will end with a total of 78 games played for the Gophers, with 59 points (12 G, 47 A).
