Kyle Davidson's Worst Mistake This Blackhawks Season

While GM
Kyle Davidson of the Chicago Blackhawks had some major wins this year, the Taylor Hall deal may be the biggest loss of the season.
The deal sent
Taylor Hall and
Nils Juntorp to the Carolina Hurricanes, in a complex trade that involved the Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche.
The Blackhawks retained half of Mikko Rantanen's salary, while they received their own 3rd-round pick back from the Hurricanes in return.
The Colorado Avalanche received
Jack Drury,
Martin Necas, a 2nd-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, and a 4th-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
The Blackhawks made no headway after the deal, only receiving a minor compensatory pick in return. While Rantanen would later force himself out of the Hurricanes team in order to play for the Dallas Stars, who are now deep into the 2nd-round of the NHL playoffs.
Taylor Hall, who shed no tears when he left Chicago and would speak ill of the Blackhawks after the whole ordeal, is still playing hockey at this moment.
While the Blackhawks? As most teams out of the playoffs are, scattered around their homes around the world, or playing hockey in the IIHF World Championships if they've been lucky enough to be invited.
It's a shame this deal has overshadowed the
Spencer Knight trade, who could be a building block in the team's future.
The Blackhawks finished the year 25-46-11, and 8th in the Central Division. Trading Taylor Hall for peanuts was a huge mistake by Davidson.
