Head coach unveils his disappointment towards the Chicago Blackhawks' management group
Jeff Blashill is the newest Head Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, and Anders Sorensen released a statement echoing disappointment with Kyle Davidson.
The
Chicago Blackhawks have put Anders Sorensen through the ringer. He took over the team at their lowest point in December, with a record of 8-16-2 after Luke Richardson's firing.
He'd leave his comfy job in Rockford, developing talent for the NHL squad, and take on the interim coach role himself. The team had issues, as veterans and prospects weren't collaborating as well as they should've been, and
Connor Bedard was going through a cold streak.
Nevertheless, he did his best. He'd finish the year in Chicago with a 17-30-2 record and would win four of the last six games to end 2024-2025.
It appeared after some time that Sorensen may be poised to take the interim tag off his name and secure the head coaching role himself.
Enter,
Jeff Blashill. A controversial coach from the Red Wings who had limited success in Hockeytown.
He'd be the Red Wings' choice for a new Head Coach in Chicago as Richardson's replacement. His vision and Davidson's seemed to align.
According to Scott Powers of The Athletic, Sorensen was disappointed he didn't get the job, but was excited with the ascendancy of Blashill into the position.
«It was honest and direct, and that's all you can ask for,» Sörensen said of Davidson's conversations during the hiring cycle. «Obviously, they made their decision there. For me, you obviously go in hoping for something. But once Kyle told me that Jeff was the guy, obviously some disappointment first, but then, obviously, excitement when I heard who it was.
It seems the two share the same vision of developing the young players in Chicago, which may explain why he's chosen to stay on as an assistant.
He believes that Blashill believes in giving every coach a voice, and will work collaboratively with him and others like Michael Peca. He still feels that the youth in Chicago can develop into a contending team; they just need the right direction.
Sorensen feels that the improvement we saw at the end of the NHL season is a sign of the future. That things are bright for Bedard, the Blackhawks, and the fans.
It's time for Blashill to lay the path to playoff contention.
